Here are some suggestions that may help you focus on planning the vision of your dream home!
Most people have trouble understanding space as defined by dimensions or determining what size is needed for a given room. For example, if a dimension for a dining room was shown as 12’ x 12’, simply use a tape measure to mark off those dimensions in a larger room that has a corner while you stand in the diagonal corner. Then look to see if those dimensions will accommodate your needs.
If you’ve gathered some interior home ideas to incorporate into your designs, you are off to a great start. There are great online resources for designs ideas. Some of them will allow you to store in a personal folder all or your gathered ideas.
Gathering pictures from homes that you’ve seen or clippings from magazines of design elements that appeal to you is helpful in determining your style. These are good ideas to have with you while discussing your design with VHD. The more the better!
It is ideal to already have your lot in mind to help determine the type of foundation your home should be designed on.
Budgeting Tip: To aid in determining your new custom home budget, first consider consulting with your banker. Secondly, consult with your home builder to aid in deciding a range for how much heated and unheated square footage that budget may afford you.
Of course, this will not be definitive, however, it can serve as a guide for you and your third step with our design team. This will assist us in the design goals for your new home. Heated square footage includes areas to be finished from outside to outside of stud wall. Unheated square footage includes porches, patios, garages, or unfinished areas under roof.
